Slashing and tolerance
Depth is deterministic given pool state, so honest indexers should agree exactly. A tolerance band would exist only for block-boundary races: a report is within tolerance if it is within a small margin of the accepted value for the same block.
Proposed schedule, open for discussion:
- Outside tolerance, once: warning, no penalty.
- Repeatedly outside tolerance: a small fraction of stake.
- Signing two different values for the same block: a large fraction of stake and removal.
Slashed stake would go to the treasury, not to reporters, so there is no incentive to manufacture disputes. The numbers are placeholders until the mechanism has been tested.
